USD is literally getting a face-lift. The improvements to the campus are not the construction of simple buildings, but actual architectual works.
Many architects have helped define American architecture over the last 250 years, none more important than Thomas Jefferson in terms of architecture at institutions of higher education.

Two weeks ago, Macalester College lost one of its stars. Those of us who value the craft of journalism-and anyone who touts the college pillars of civic engagement and academic excellence-have much to mourn at the departure of College Relations director Doug Stone.

The attitude toward Ikea furniture seems to be the prevailing attitude toward bisexuality, that it's just an attractive, easy to assemble identity for college.
That's nonsense.

Eighteen springs have passed and nineteen are coming soon. It's not much of life. To understand what is going on around, it's not too little. Now, the world has grown up to appreciate people for their deeds rather than age. I am an immigrant, non-United States citizen.

College students aren't normally known for turning out in high numbers on election day, but this November Minnesota State students have a very good reason to go vote - and it's not Barack Obama, either.
Yes, national elections are obviously very important, but local elections, which many young people tend to overlook, are also important.

I know the Olympics have come and gone, but surely their events remain present in our memories. The memory definitely remains in the wallet of the Chinese government. With a stadium that holds 91,000 people, and a three-week event that involves 10,500 athletes participating in 302 events, the Chinese government sure had their hands full this August during the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

Being gone all summer can take a toll on students in more ways than the obvious. As a "super senior" with four-plus years of experience on this campus, I can offer what wisdom, however menial, I have accrued during my time here.
Between tuition, books and the general mayhem and cost of fall, it is easy to forget about purchasing a parking pass.

In today's fast-paced society, the idea of a weekly paper is basically extinct. For most people, news is something they want now, not later, and they want to access it as easily as possible. For weekly papers like The Volante that sit on racks around campus and the community, this could spell demise, unless those papers choose to move one step ahead of the times and start treating their newspapers like a weekly product with daily capabilities.

Over 30 years ago, the Coyote Student Center was bright, shiny and new. This year's freshman class doesn't even know what our beloved CSC looked like. What students have today is only the promise of a still incomplete, state-of-the-art university center.
President Abbott's goal is to transform USD into the best small, publicly funded university in the nation.

There's no way to escape it. Katy Perry's hit song "I Kissed a Girl" was everywhere this summer.
After 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, you'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard the lyrics, "I kissed a girl and I liked it/The taste of her cherry ChapStick/I kissed a girl just to try it/I hope my boyfriend don't mind it.
