Strategic Planning Day
While many students slept in, staff, faculty and some students started their day off with breakfast in the Conference Center for strategic planning day on Friday, Jan. 29. Strategic planning day provides professors and students a chance to discuss curriculum and campus activities that do and could better serve the students of Southwest Minnesota State University, according to a list of ten academic and societal outcomes devised by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

One of the most awaited Winter Meltdown week events, the Nearly Naked Mile turned a chilly Thursday into a hot and energetic evening. Though the program was supposed to start at 8 p.m., the curiosity of the participants pulled them into RA facility at 7:25 p.

Dollar Deals at the Mustang Zone

Dollar Deals at the Mustang Zone
Starting this semester, the Mustang Zone will no longer be offering as much of a food variety as in the past. To compensate, the Mustang Zone has added dollar deals and new products. Frozen products such as the Fuchi smoothie drinks and the chili-cheese dogs will be removed from the jam-packed freezer this semester.

Student Support Network

The Student Support Network is being implemented this semester at Southwest Minnesota State University.  This program is an effort to get students the help they need from their peers, as well as themselves.  The idea of the Student Support Network (SSN) came from a model by Sara Fier, assistant professor of counseling at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Winter Meltdown Breakdown

Students at Southwest Minnesota State University shook off the winter blues during SMSU's annual Winter Meltdown week Jan. 26-30, themed "Frosty got flashed by paparazzi." At Tuesday night's musician, students were encourage to "make friends with winter" by Ellis, a singer and songwriter from Minneapolis.

Adding Co-Ed Housing

RHA takes vote to support new housing option on campus
Representatives for the Residence Hall Association met last Thursday to discuss their stance for a co-ed housing option for fall 2010 at Southwest Minnesota State University. The body members voted in support of the proposal to be written on behalf of RHA to Residence Life administration.

Used Bookstore Starts with Accounting Club
Every semester, the Southwest Minnesota State University Accounting Clubs hosts a book sale for used textbooks. This semester, the club is expanding their business off campus. The Accounting Club is in the process of starting a used bookstore in the back of where The Village used to be, a store the Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) group started in 2006.
