Great food, amazing ambiance and happy students were the main characteristics of the 19th annual International Food Festival at Southwest Minnesota State University. It is now a tradition at SMSU and is anticipated every year with the same excitement.
This past Sunday has been a busy one for the international students. They started the day before Saturday, making sure everything was ready and assigning specific tasks to everybody.
From 12 a.m. to 4 p.m., people came from everywhere to taste the delicious meals of these countries whose cuisine they don't have the opportunity to know and taste. The tickets for the food ($7 for five tickets) were valid for five different meals from the different countries represented.
At the same time, you there was a fashion show in live since you could admire the nice outfits of students from the different countries. Tickets also came with the opportunity to owners to be exchanged for for prizes. There was also dance lessons by the Latino Club and the public seems to have enjoyed it. There were many countries represented: Japan, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, India, Nepal, Kenya, the United States (represented by the Black Students Union) and many others.
Those who came were happy they did, and kept talking about how great the food was.
Sandrine Nebié from Burkina Faso was very excited: "I am very happy about the festival and I just want to eat the maximum I can. The food looks so good!" Faso said. And Tatsuro Shindoh from Japan said it is fun and that he hopes the festival will keep going for many years. Gilbert Maru from Kenya was somehow disappointed. He said he expected more people. Overall, those who came really enjoyed it. Danielle Mc Lain, from the United States, before even tasting the food said she loves the colorful decoration. And Shekhar Nepal from Nepal said he was very excited and added that "It is so awesome to have all these different foods from all these different countries."
Congratulations to ISO (International Students Organization) for this successful festival!
