Recalling My Religion

I felt good listening to Hans Schumacher giving lecture on the Buddhist meditation and practice. Let me tell you I am a Buddhist and, to tell the truth, at one time in my life at Southwest Minnesota State University, I never thought about my religion even for a second. It never came to my mind that 'Yeah! I am a Buddhist.' Not that I was attracted by other religions but I completely forgot that people are divided into religions like Christian, Hindus, Muslim and Buddhist.
Back home, things were different, we followed Buddhism. And maybe after so many years my mind was free that made me forgot about my religion. I don't know the exact reason why, for last nine months, I never looked back at my religion; however, on April 21, it all came back to me like bursting flood of water, taking me back to the things my family taught to me about Buddhism.
The things Schumacher said were not new for me; however, it did have its effect on me from that day till now. I don't know how long will I be able to hold onto this because I did forget once and, who knows, I may forget it again in future.
I am pleased, however, and thankful to SMSU for bringing back my memories and for bringing diversity to SMSU. I am also glad because the time I spent here at SMSU, I was able to see diversity of so many people, cultures and religions which I may have never known if I had stayed in my country.
I am really happy because, towards the end of this semester, not only did I recall my religion but for all the extra knowledge I gained from SMSU. I thank the Spur for hiring me as a staff writer because I have met so many people and got a chance to know them personally and shared their knowledge and wisdom.
