Dealing with finals is hard enough but add to that the stress of packing and having a social life and things can get a bit hairy. So here are some helpful tips that may help you deal with those stresses a little more.
First the biggest stress: the dreaded finals. The first thing to help reduce your stress during finals is to keep organized.
Write out when and where your finals are, that way you know what to expect. Next, set aside time to study just for one particular final. If you can't concentrate well, just study one topic for one-two hours, then take a 15-30 minute break, after that go back and study again. Remember it takes about two hours of study for a 50 minute class, so start studying early in the week and next week. Finally, remember to eat well and get plenty of rest, try not to pull too many all nighters. A healthy and fully rested body will make you more alert and ready for the test.
Handling friends during finals is also a bit stressful. It is important to spend time with them but it is also important for you to get enough time to study. Set some time aside in your day or week to spend just with your friends and do something relaxing like play an easy game or watch a movie. Being with your friends is also a great way to deal with stress. Being with people you like and having fun it can make you feel a lot better and allows you to blow off some steam. But remember if your friends want to do more hanging out than you have time for, let them know that you can't hang right now because of a certain final. They will understand because they also have finals to deal with. After everyone's last final it would be fun to hang with your friends to celebrate but remember if you hang out at the dorms to respect your neighbors because they may still have finals to study for.
The last stress is: packing. As the year has gone by I'm sure that many people have gathered more things than they had when they came to school at the beginning of the year. So start packing early. Start by gathering up things that you don't need right away, such as winter clothes, shoes, decorations, the little things. Then, as the time to leave gets closer, start packing up a few of the bigger things that you don't need, perhaps your movie collection, books you no longer need or some more clothes. This would also be a good time to start packing up your car or truck, by getting things out of the way you have less to carry down later and know what else you need to pack.
Once your last final is done and you are ready to leave, make sure to follow the check out list that your RA gave you and don't be afraid to ask questions. They are there to help you. If you know ahead of time of what to do and where to meet your RA, things will go a lot smoother. And now it is time to start your summer break free of stress.
