Every semester, the Southwest Minnesota State University Accounting Clubs hosts a book sale for used textbooks. This semester, the club is expanding their business off campus.

The Accounting Club is in the process of starting a used bookstore in the back of where The Village used to be, a store the Student in Free Enterprise (SIFE) group started in 2006.

"We are taking any books; old, new, paperback, hardcover. We have a lot of novels now, but have taken ones like cookbooks," Rachel Myhre, student manager for the used bookstore said. "The idea stemmed off the book sale the club does."

The bookstore is not intended to collect profit. All of the money raised through the bookstore will go back to the club for scholarships for future accounting club members.

With the help of Dr. David Patterson, Accounting Club advisor, the store should be starting within two weeks.

"It's with the help of the Accounting cClub and dedicated members that is going to make this happen," Myhre, fourth year accounting major, said. "So far we've made the shelves, been collecting the books and then pricing them."

Books are being priced at approximately $2.00 per book, but the price is based off what the book was originally sold for.

"We know there is a market for a used bookstore in Marshall because there really isn't one now. We have experience with book sales," Myhre said. Club volunteers will donate their time to running the business.

Books donations can be dropped off at the site of The Village at 309 East College Drive. The club is intending for donations of used VHS tapes and DVDs in the future as well.
