They walked for about thirty minutes, all thirsty, hungry and exhausted when they saw something that looked like a water garden. They rushed to it, but then they saw a very skinny guy that had sharp blades at his fingers instead of nails. This guy was apparently the protector of the water garden and was not very happy about the presence of the children.
He started to throw the blades from his fingers at the children and those blades were automatically replaced. Ryan got hit by one of the blades on his cheek and could barely walk after that. They were all scared to death and did not know where to go. Then, Kelsey, seeing one of the blades coming straight towards his chest, reacted by instinct and used his hands to reverse the trajectory of the blade. The skinny man, not expecting such a thing, was not able to dodge, and he got the blade in his chest. He died a few minutes after, giving the children the opportunity to drink and have some rest .
Luckily for Ryan, they had some of the leaves that their grandfather usually uses to treat infections in the garden. Tyra used some bark of trees to make some fire, boiled the leaves, and gave the mixture to Ryan. He felt better a little bit after.
The children slept by the garden for about two hours, then they got up and started to walk. They still did not know where they were going, all they had in mind was that their grandfather asked them to keep going straight until they get out of the desert, so the faster they got out of the desert, the faster they would be able to go back home.
They were rushing, thinking of nothing else but home. They knew they would be challenged before getting home and that it would not be easy, but they were confident. Ryan was a little bit pessimistic but he also wanted to get home and knew that whatever would happen to them would be the price to pay for home.
Therefore, they kept walking until they saw the muck. They had to cross the muck to go forward and for some reason, they were all distrustful. They did not know what, but they knew there was something aggressive in the muck. Kelsey had the idea of putting a piece of wood in to see what will happen. But nothing happened! That piece of wood was mysteriously floating on the muck and nothing happened to it. They did the same thing with pebbles and nothing happened as well.
